Stick It to The Man

A site of rebellion.

A Fashionista’s take on shopping in a pandemic

It’s a deal.  It’s convenient. It’s “therapy.”
But is it good?
The NY Times’ Fashion Writer, Vanessa Friedman, delicately wades into the topic in an article the other day.  The link is above.

She writes, “It has become a moral question as much as a consumer issue.”

It’s convenient to forget morality in a time of crisis.  But at the same time, it’s not like we’re being shot at.  If you can afford to buy something, especially in the fashion realm, you can afford to buy it from the person, the outlet, the site, that needs it the most and best supports your community.

Besides, you can always count on Amazon to do the short-sighted thing that puts their profits above all else.

Shop local.

Shop small.

prevent monopsony.  At least limit its spread, as it depresses wages and choice and increases prices.

We should want a competitive marketplace when the Covid-19 pandemic ends.
